In the Midst of Fires and Floods

All summer long I
gnawed on the edges of the sun
until my gums bled

A straw to it’s center, drinking
liquid fire and ore and gold

Yin, they said
Emulate, channel, affirm, just BE yin;

My eyes inflated like
helium balloons
I wondered

If Phaethon crashes his Dad’s car just one more time
Are we all fucked?

The floods and the fires stir within me
some dire drive

for now I write a poem
and run toward every fallen grain

like a hungry chicken
(So bold were you while sipping on the sun)
