The Sea

I met the Sea
She washed over me, I
Touched my toe to the water and it was cold.

I skirted around the tips of her waves,
danced in, danced out.
Like her.

We danced together and,
teased each other.
Finally we looked at each other seriously and said,

”We can’t dance around this,
any longer”

So I walked in.
A wave knocked me on my ass
and damn, was it cold.

I stood again,
this time I dug my feet into the sand, I
bent my knees,
I saw the horizon but watched
each coming wave.

Between waves I moved father out until the water was deep enough
To Dive.
Under.

Soon I learned to float above,
and then

I laughed and laughed and
Played with the Sea
like she was an old friend to me.

Until
I rested on my back and let her carry me.

And laughed again

And walked back to shore,
with my eyes on her to
remind me to
ground
through
the
waves.
